For a short story, it was really good. Started out intriguing and answered the questions raised at the beginning, but still left you with a cliff hanger as to what the next step will be. What do the runes mean? Where will Pete and Jacob go next? How will he live? Who can he rely on, other than Pete? What is he supposed to do going forward and why do the demons want him dead? Right now he is alone, everyone he knew gone, except for a dog.The story definitely caught my attention with no obvious errors in writing. Jacob is a demon fighter of some kind, but we have yet to learn how, who his parents were, what other gifts he has, why Pete is helping him, etc. I just wish they aren't all short stories.
Unless this is not your genre, it was really a book that all age groups would enjoy. I'll be picking up the next one soon.

Jake got a Birthday gift like no other that's for sure. His whole world is turned upside down and he needs to believe really fast in the unbelievable . He gets help from a demon in the form of a dog (Hell hound)
Being J.H.Glaze I knew it was going to be a creative fast pace flowing ride into an evil darkness but will Jake be able to survive the evil that's possessing people trying to kill him ? And why him and so many questions ,so glad Rune II Nemesis is available . These stories are written so easy to read you just can't stop you keep wanting more because you just have to know what is going to happen next.
Totally loved this book. This was the first book of J.H.'s that I read, and very pleasantly surprised. A real page turner, fast read, had me on the edge of my seat. Definitely will be reading the next one in this series. Wish it was all put together to form a whole book though.
Very unique story, and will definitely keep you interested.
Jake thought he was going to have an ordinary birthday, but at midnight, he was met with shocking pain, writing suddenly showing up on his body, and a talking dog. He thought he was losing his mind. He is also dealt with a sudden loss, and an overload of information of who/what he really is and can do.
Definitely recommend this book!
Rune by J.H. Glaze was another book in the Sweet 16 Summer Splash challenge that I participated in.
I didn't really find this book to be horror, more of a suspense, thriller, mystery. I do understand that it was supposed to have a scare element to it. It was a short and easy read. I was kept interested throughout and when I was finished I was left wanting more. I enjoyed the characters for the brief time that we spent together. I really want to learn more about Gerlock!! Where did he come from? Why a dog? Why Jake? Hopefully more answers will be given with each new instalment.
I would recommend this novella to J.H. Glaze fans and also to anyone who enjoys suspense, mystery thrillers with a hint of horror. I will definitely read the next book in the series.
This was a fast-paced, YA novel that started off with a bang and just kept going until the end. I think a lot of young adults will like this and if the series stays as action-packed as this one it will be a hit. Jake is just celebrating his 18th birthday. He's moved around a lot but he's pretty happy now. He has a job, a girlfriend and friends. All that's about to change though because his grandmother has been lying to him and he's about to find out why. Will definitely be reading the rest of the series.
Rune by J.H. Glaze starts off strong with a story line that digs its claws into the reader from the beginning.
The opening scene balances potent imagery with situational mystery to create an engaging story about a teenager named Jacob Rune going through some changes—just not your typical teenage changes.
I like the characters so far. They are rounded out and realistic. They are engaging enough for me to want to follow them further into the tale. I feel invested in their lives shortly after they are introduced.
This is Episode I, available free on , and is the beginning of a four part series that run 99 cents each. For the cost of $3 total, this is some good entertainment.
ok. i'll be the first to admit...i got this book a while back and read about half of it when i set it aside to do other things and never really came back to it until now. for the past couple of days i managed to find myself on a jh glaze-fest and started reading his books again. i had to start from the beginning of this one again since i couldn't just pick up where i left off without a refresher on the goings on up to that point.
how was it? like all of jh glaze's books (for me) utterly mezmerising! yes, it's a short read...took me about an hour max...but well worth it! will definitely be purchasing the rest of this series....i must know what happens next!
maybe a bit 'salty' for a ya reader....but for the most part....worth reading!
The pros and cons of “Rune”
Pros
Good story concept.
Quick read (I finished it in less than an hour).
Cons
The writing is utterly simplistic and if it weren’t for the constant use of offensive language, it could’ve been a great read for ten-year-olds.
The dialogue is awkward and feels forced.
Overall
“Rune” doesn’t offer anything new you haven’t read before. I’ve enjoyed this author’s adult horror novels, but struggled to get into this story and connect with the underdeveloped characters. Not a read I’ll recommend to my closest friends, but if you’re in the mood for an effortless quick read before bedtime, this would definitely be it. Check out JH Glaze’s John Hazzard novels and his other novellas which, in my opinion, are way better than this.
